1885 Map of Greater Zion (Zion Canyon, St. George, Kanab, Cedar City, Brian Head)

A handsome 24" x 37" early map of south-western Utah predating the creation of Zion National Park. Created by merging several vintage topographic maps from 1885-1886, which in turn used topographic surveying from John Wesley Powell's legendary exploration of the Colorado River from 1869-1872. The map includes early settlements in the vicinity of Saint George, Kanab, Cedar City, and covers what may be said to be the most celebrated portion of Utah's redrock desert. 

We have printed this elegant vintage map on Arches BFK Rives 100% Cotton Rag paper, handmade at the Blanchet Frères & Kléber paper mill in Rives, France on a traditional cylinder paper mould. The subtle pattern of the paper fibers stands out wonderfully in this uncluttered map of SW Utah, and lends a rich and elegant appearance to the whole piece.
