1909 Panoramic Map of Los Angeles California
1909 Panoramic Map of Los Angeles California
This panoramic-style map of Los Angeles, California in 1909 harkens from the zenith of the "birds-eye-view" citymap period, and is one of the very best! Featuring an oblique view to the north across Downtown LA, this hyper-realistic illustrated map captures the accurate, intricate details of each and every building (even the ads painted on the sides of buildings!), the result of an astonishing amount of work surveying and sketching by the artist. Created by Worthington Gates and the Birds Eye View Publishing Company of Los Angeles, the map has labels for all the businesses and notable sites drawn right onto the map (a notable departure from most perspective city maps which relegate all the details to a lengthy legend). For someone familiar with LA, what fun it is to see exactly what was where well over 100 years ago! The map also shows the hills north of LA, from Mount San Bernadino to Griffith Park, as well as outlying communities from Pasadena to Hollywood.
This attention-grabbing centerpiece is printed on Arches BFK Rives 100% Cotton Rag paper, handmade at the Blanchet Frères & Kléber paper mill in Rives, France on a traditional cylinder paper mould. The subtle pattern of the paper fibers is visible in oblique lighting, and lends a rich and elegant appearance to the whole work.
* NOTE: This is a carefully crafted print of the highest quality, but it is not the original work.
