1899 Map of the Route of the Mormon Pioneers (1846-1847)
1899 Map of the Route of the Mormon Pioneers (1846-1847)
This one-of-a-kind 72" x 23" map of the route of the Mormon Pioneers from February 1846 in Nauvoo, Illinois through their arrival in Salt Lake City, Utah in July 1847 is a stunning work of art, hand-illustrated and hand-colored with dramatic scenes from the famous trek west. Millroy and Hayes Publishers of Salt Lake City produced the map in 1899, accompanied by a detailed guide, and clearly intended this map to be displayed in the home, as it surely was at the turn of the last century. The map depicts each camp made by the pioneers with its corresponding date, and even the miles traveled each day. Many notable landmarks are beautifully illustrated next to their approximate location along the route.
The map is printed on Arches BFK Rives 100% Cotton Rag paper, handmade at the Blanchet Frères & Kléber paper mill in Rives, France on a traditional cylinder paper mould. The subtle pattern of the paper fibers is visible in oblique lighting and lends a rich and elegant appearance to the whole piece.
* NOTE: This is a carefully crafted print of the highest quality, but it is not the original work.
