MORE ABOUT THE MAP:
Based on the best available information of the day, including reports from French explorers La Salle, D'Iberbille and Saint-Denis (whose explorations are depicted on the map), this depiction of the Louisiana Territory is remarkable for it's accuracy (for its time - 1718). From a modern perspective, it's also rather delightful for how much is not quite correct... or very much off-base.
The map is printed on Arches BFK Rives 100% Cotton Rag paper, handmade at the Blanchet Frères & Kléber paper mill in Rives, France on a traditional cylinder paper mould. The subtle pattern of the paper fibers is faintly visible, and lends a nice cloth-like appearance to the whole map. Detail is exceptionally well-rendered considering the age of the original.
* NOTE: This is a carefully crafted print of the highest quality, but it is not the original work.
